Over the years, more than 100 local secondary schools have taken part in AFS exchange programs, presenting local students with a unique international exchange opportunity. What’s more, the visiting overseas students also help create an immersive multinational learning environment for these schools.
The schools of 130-plus local secondary students participating in the “Overseas Year Program” each year are very supportive of the exchange activities. Participants of the exchange programs are invited to share their international cultural experiences with teachers and fellow students on their return to Hong Kong.
Response from the Education Sector:
“Under the new three-three-four academic structure, there should be plenty of flexibility and room for students to participate in AFS programs, which give them the opportunities to expand their perspective and engage in cultural exchange. Providing financial assistance for promising students from poor families to take part in the overseas exchange programs is a particularly meaningful and encouraging step.”
Mr TAI Hay-lap, J.P. (Principal of Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School)
“Through interaction and communication with AFS exchange students, not only can local students expand their international perspective and scope of knowledge, but also develop a more thorough understanding on the characteristics of local culture and community. In this regard, the programs have made significant contribution to the development of local schools and community.”
Mrs LAU LI Kwok-kin (Principal of Heep Yunn School)
“Intercultural learning activities expose our students to the culture, lifestyle and languages of different countries, which can enhance their language proficiency and promote cultural exchange. The overseas students we hosted have helped create a vibrant learning atmosphere and enhance teaching effectiveness, not to mention that they are hugely popular among our teachers and students.”
Mr HO Moon-tim (Principal of Buddhist Sin Tak College)
