Being a cultural organization with such an illustrious history, AFS has been working hard in promoting education through cultural exchanges, and has won international recognition for its effort and contributions. In 1989, it became the first and only student exchange organization to receive a commendation from the United Nations, evidence of the excellent results of our cultural exchange programmes. In addition, AFS is also an advisory body for the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
AFS has set up branches in nearly 60 countries around the world. Over 325,000 students have been organized to take part in overseas exchange programs throughout the years, and more than 10,000 youths participate in various exchange programs each year. As a result, it has become one of the longest-standing and biggest student exchange organizations in the world.
By maintaining close contacts with other international branches, AFS Hong Kong has been providing local participants with various exchange options, including exchange programs in English or non-English speaking countries in different parts of the world. Its goal is to widen their global perspective to develop a complete understanding of global culture and life experiences.
