AFS: 60 Years of Exchanges since 1947 The Paraguayan CEO is in Town

AFS is one of the world’s most prestigious and respected international education organizations. With the mission to promote peace through intercultural understanding, AFS is committed to develop the educational exchange programs as well as networking the youth, families and educators internationally.

Founded in 1947, AFS is celebrating the 60th anniversary this year and Mr. Francisco “Tachi” Cazal, the President & CEO (see profile attached) will visit Hong Kong on August 21 and 22, 2007 as part of his Asian Partners Tour. “Tachi” is a Paraguayan and has long been working with AFS to develop worldwide network for intercultural exchanges. He was also one of the exchange students to the United States in the 1970s on full scholarship. After the exchange year, he has involved AFS works in Paraguay and then worldwide.

With many years of working at AFS that is a non-profit, non-governmental and volunteer-driven organization, “Tachi” definitely has memorable stories and distinctive view of youth education and cultural integration to share.

Facts of AFS Intercultural Exchanges:

  • AFS operates cultural exchange programs in over 50 countries,
  • Over 11,000 students, teachers, and community service participants join the programs every year,
  • Over 350,000 individuals have had the AFS experience since 1947,
  • More than 30,000 active AFS volunteers and supporters around the world,
  • AFS works closely with more than 10,000 high schools and no less than 1,000 community-based organizations globally
