An exchange student to Iceland

Yiu Ling, 18, received a full scholarship from AFS, travelled to Iceland for a year of cultural exploration. In her interview with the Young Post, SCMP, she said “It was a wonderful year which broadened my horizons, I was exposed to a completely different culture which gave me an opportunity to live a lifestyle that I cannot experience in Hong Kong.”

Speaking on her experience of living in a non-English speaking country, she said “At the beginning, I spoke English with my host family and classmates but later I picked up the local language (the language of Vikings). It’s interesting to immerse in a language that you’ve never learned before.”

Ling was interviewed by several newspapers in Hong Kong after she returned to Hong Kong.
