External Relations and Communication Manager / Officer
AFS Intercultural Exchanges in Hong Kong is seeking a self-motivated and mature candidate to fill the position of External Relations and Communications Manager / Officer (CM/CO). AFS is a non-profit, volunteer based organization which seeks to promote international understanding through intercultural exchange programs for secondary school students and teachers in more than fifty countries around the world.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is primarily responsible for all communications projects expected to impact recruitment of students and host families, develop stronger relationships with the media & educators, outreach to volunteers, enhance AFS’ profile in Hong Kong and strengthen visibility. A priority for 2010 will be the strengthening of our brand, outreach to our alumni and volunteer leadership training workshop.
Specific responsibilities include press outreach, producing the quarterly newsletter, annual report, recruitment brochures and implementation of marketing plans. Enhancing AFS’ web page and use of it by our internal volunteers is also a priority. As well, this position focuses on liaising with other organizations in HK as a means to build relationships and enhance visibility in the community. Proactively maintaining an understanding of the market and competitors is critical to positioning AFS appropriately with potential students, their parents and with schools.
Working closely with the Executive Director and Program Director on marketing strategies is a key responsibility whilst assisting the Executive Director to draft proposals in fundraising initiatives and in developing a program to recognize our donors and to build volunteer based organization come as second key responsibility.
AFS is a volunteer based organization. The CM must often work closely with volunteers, exchange students and families in organizing events and communications projects.
Skills required for this position include: able to work independently, excellent communication skills, fluency in Cantonese and English, (knowledge in Putonghua is an advantage) demonstrated strong organizational and project- management capabilities. Professional work experience with volunteers, in an NGO and in communications is desirable. Significant working time outside traditional office hours is to be expected given the nature of a volunteer organization. Having web page management experience is also desirable while MS words applications is a must.
Consideration of employing Communication Officer will be given to a candidate with less experience but demonstrate strong potential.

Sending Program Coordinator
AFS Intercultural Exchanges in Hong Kong is seeking a self-motivated and mature candidate to fill the position of Sending Program Coordinator. AFS is a non-profit, volunteer based organization which seeks to promote international understanding through intercultural exchange programs for secondary school students and teachers in more than fifty countries around the world.
This position reports directly to the Program Director and is primarily responsible for overseeing the general sending program’s progress, documentations and activities.
Specific responsibilities include working with the Communications Department to promote the programs and recruiting students; outreach and communications with teachers and career counselors for the exchange program; working with the volunteers to organize school talks, information session, selection day, home visit, parents and students’ orientations; arranging international travel and student visas; coordinating with the partners in hosting countries and parents in Hong Kong for ongoing support to the AFS students during their exchange year overseas. As well, this position also needs to oversee management of scholarships and financial aid for the students.
AFS is a volunteer based organization. The Sending Program Coordinator must often work closely with volunteers, exchange students and families in organizing events and different projects.
